👗 Night & lounging

During the postpartum period (and often beyond), everything revolves around ease and comfort. Your body is recovering, you're often nursing at night, and you want warm, soft clothing that doesn't constrict.

✔️ Joha wool/silk or wolf fleece suit – perfect for night feedings: warm, breathable, soft
✔️ Wool socks or slippers – warm feet promote relaxation (and milk supply)
✔️ Comfortable pajamas or wrap top – easy feeding without the hassle of buttons or zippers
✔️ Extra cardigan or shawl – great for those cold hours in the middle of the night

🤱 Breastfeeding basics

Whether you breastfeed for a long time or not, a few basics make all the difference in convenience.

✔️ 2 nursing bras without underwire, preferably made of natural material
✔️ 3–5 pairs of washable nursing pads (wool/silk or cotton) to absorb leakage
✔️ Nursing pillow for support of your arms and back
✔️ Shea butter or healing wool for sensitive nipples
✔️ Nutritious diet + supplements – eat a varied and nutrient-rich diet, and supplement with supplements such as liquid omega-3 for extra support if needed

💡 Tip: Make a "feeding basket" with compresses, treats, water, and your e-reader or book – everything to hand during feedings.

🛌 Recovery & self-care

After giving birth, it's also about your recovery. Small natural remedies can make that easier.

✔️ Washable maternity underwear or loose briefs – comfortable, breathable and better for the environment
✔️ Eco maternity pads or washable pads – gentle on your skin, without plastics or perfumes 🌱
✔️ Peri bottle – a small rinsing bottle that provides relief when urinating or flushing after giving birth 🚿
✔️ Soft hot water bottle or heating pad – relaxes your stomach or back
✔️ Natural care oil or shea butter – for your skin
✔️ Hydrophilic cloths – not only for your baby, but also useful for you
✔️ A nice water bottle – keep drinking, especially during breastfeeding
✔️ Healthy snacks – nuts, fruit or energy balls, so you always have something at hand
✔️ Mealtrain – let friends or family cook, so you don't have to think about food yourself 🍲
✔️ Postpartum massage at home – pure relaxation and support for your recovery, without having to leave the house 💆♀️
✔️ Closing the Bones ceremony – a special experience where, when you are ready, you will be literally and symbolically supported in closing your pregnancy and embracing your new phase ✨
✔️ Postpone visits – you decide when you're ready. Indicate on your birth announcement when visitors are welcome. This way, you and your family can enjoy peace and quiet during the first few days/weeks.

💡 Tip: prepare these basics in a basket so you don't have to think about anything during the maternity week.

✨ My own maternity week highlights

Every mother experiences the postpartum period differently – and yet there are so many relatable moments. For me, these were real lifesavers:

💛 Nighttime meditations – when I couldn't sleep, a short meditation still helped me unwind. No sleep, just relaxation.

💛 Postpartum massage with yoni steam at home – pure pampering and recovery in one. And the best part: your baby can stay with you.

💛 Mealtrain from my dear friends – food was ready every day. This way I could focus on my daughter and not have to think about cooking.

💛 For the first period, I just stayed in bed – with my newborn daughter on my chest. Completely in our own bubble, without any obligations.

✨ Finally – don't forget yourself

A natural maternity kit is more than just laying out things. It's about giving yourself the time to slowly ease into this new rhythm. A few soft basics will make that transition easier – and help you care for your baby better.

💛 This checklist has been lovingly compiled by Atelier de Wevershoek, so you can focus on what really matters: enjoying your maternity period in warmth and security.
